Overview

E2 is looking for a Senior Substation Engineer to join our team in our greater Maui or Honolulu areas to support our major electric utility client in Hawaii.  Responsible for the design of deliverables associated with substation design projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients.  The successful candidate will perform design, project engineering, project management, and general engineering duties in support of the capital construction programs for our client. They will plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.  The position will be reporting directly to the Substation Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations, and related engineering design work in accordance with Company standards, applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Attends project site visits to assist in the development of scope of work and help define project objectives.
  • Prepares engineering cost estimate and man-hour estimates and schedules.
  • Develop top level documents for Electrical Physical and Protection & Control packages.
  • Provides guidance to junior engineers and/or designers in the development of detailed design documents.
  • Performs calculations for studies and reports including, but not limited to, grounding & lightning protection, and AC/DC load studies.
  • Prepares material, equipment construction specifications for bid, and evaluates proposals and makes recommendations for purchase.
  • Develop project schedules and project cost estimates for inclusion in the capital budget.
  • Conducts field inspections to verify field conditions and check compliance with specifications, then prepares reports of findings.
  • Performs quality control reviews of design calculations, and drawings.
  • Coordinate design activities with other disciplines (Civil/structural, telecom, transmission, etc.).
  • Serves as technical advisor for the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
  • Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering or ability to obtain license within 12 months of hire.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Salary range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000.  The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
