Overview

The Field Construction Inspector will be responsible for monitoring and documenting construction activities for public works projects, ensuring compliance with approved plans, specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes. This role focuses on the construction aspects of city infrastructure projects, including streets, drainage systems, water and sewer lines, and related improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Daily Site Presence:
    • Maintain a consistent presence at assigned construction sites to observe and verify work progress.
  • Construction Oversight - Inspect construction activities related to:
    • Streets and street improvements (paving, signage, striping)
    • Sidewalks and curbs
    • Sewer and water systems
    • Drainage structures and stormwater facilities
    • Traffic-related installations (signals, signage)
    • Hydrology-related improvements
  • Compliance Verification:
    • Ensure all work complies with approved engineering plans, specifications, and applicable Federal, State, and municipal codes.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Check materials, workmanship, and installation methods for adherence to standards.
  • Safety Monitoring:
    • Confirm that contractors follow safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports, including:
  • Issue Identification & Resolution:
    • Report deficiencies promptly and coordinate with contractors and city staff to resolve issues.
  • Technical Support:
    • Provide field-level clarification on plans and specifications to contractors as needed.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain professional communication with contractors, engineers, and city representatives regarding project status and compliance.
  • Regulatory Adherence:
    • Monitor compliance with ordinances governing sewer and water distribution, drainage, and traffic systems.

 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of civil construction practices and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with public works standards and municipal codes.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Previous experience in field inspection or construction oversight preferred.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Pay range for this position is $85.00/hr - $100.00/hr.  The starting pay will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
