Overview

 

The CNG Technician I position, is an entry level position for CNG technician classification; primary duties include assisting CNG Tech. II, client Construction Managers or team members, with field operations relating to natural gas. The Construction technician will support with all aspects of safety practices to conduct a CNG/LNG gas bypass, cross compression, and pipeline gas collection operation. Understand and execute principles of working safely with compressed natural gas pressures of up to 3,600psig, in addition to working with spring operated gas regulators and pressure relief valves. This is a Part-Time OnCall position.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and analyzes performance of CNG/LNG bypass regulation equipment and pressure relief valves.
  • Inspects and ensure equipment conditions during the operation at Customer MSA’s, Regulator Stations, and other facilities are safe and operating as planned.
  • Install, set up and test for leakage of all hose, piping, tubing connections of the regulation equipment in preparation of a CNG/LNG bypass, cross-compression, gas collections.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Take work direction from a client CNG/LNG Construction Manager or Team member.

Qualifications

  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and pass a pre-drug test and comply with clients company drug testing program.
  • Basic mathematical skills and computer skills are required.
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC voltage, circuitry, and battery systems.
  • Must possess mechanical ability and dexterity to work with small and large hand tools, in addition to reading and comprehending analog and digital pressure and temperature gauges.
  • Understanding the theory and principal operations of a gas regulator and pressure relief valve.
  • Ability to safely work around CNG high pressure gas storage units of up to 3,600psig.
  • Safe and proper use of several types of hand tools used for pipe fitting, stainless steel tubing.
  • Safely understand how to use and manipulate a fire extinguisher.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Vocational training or technical experience in measurement and regulation theory and methods and techniques in the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting skills on regulation and pressure relief valves and valve operation.
  • Experienced with working with high pressure gas systems with NGV type pressures and LNG gas operations.
  • Certified forklift operator and successful completion of forklift training course.
  • Haz-Mat driving credentials.
  • DOT/OP Qual. For gas regulation, PRV and valve operation.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Hourly rate for this position is $58.00 - $63.00.  The starting rate will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Work Environment

  • Must be available for emergency call outs and be able to work occasional extensive hours.
  • Maybe required to work 8 to 12-hour shifts, depending on project needs.

 

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects weighing 100 pounds, as required.

Travel

Reporting areas may and will require driving long distances and on occasions require overnight lodging; sometimes a week if not longer.
